Bellwood-Antis is looking to bounce back after two straight losses. The Devils travel to Wingate to take on Bald Eagle Area this Friday to conclude their three-game gauntlet. It’s been a rough patch for BA, but the team is still hoping to make a playoff run.
There are going to be some good matchups on the field once again for both teams. Senior tight end Cayden Pellegrine is leading the team in receiving yards per game with 40.5, while junior running back Colin Gibbons takes the reigns on the ground with 65.3 rushing yards per game. Quarterback Holden Schreier continues to sling the ball as he broke 1000 passing yards on the season, last game.
B-A is also seeing success with the defense. We once again see Gibbons pop up, as he has 4 interceptions going into week 9. They have also racked up a total of 469 tackles, which is 133 more than the national average.
Gibbons is optimistic that he and his teammates will continue to show out. “We’re looking to go get a win Friday. This is a big week for playoff standings, so we need to forget about the last 2 weeks and get a victory.”
On the flip-side, Bald Eagle has been excelling on offense. Quarterback Carson Nagle has thrown 20 touchdown passes this season. He has mostly been targeting junior Gradyn Fisher, who averages 72 receiving yards a game, and senior Wyatt Spackman, who’s caught 6 touchdown passes.
Going into the game this week, tensions are high for both players and coaches for Bellwood-Antis. This game is crucial if they want to continue playing into the postseason. The Devils are currently ranked No. 6 in Class 2A, 30 points ahead of United.
“We can’t change what happened in the past, so we take each week one by one,” said head coach Nick Lovrich. “Going into the end of the season, it’d be great for us to get another win to give us 6 this season. This would help us a lot with our seeding in the crossover, as well as the playoffs.”
