The Tyrone/Bellwood-Antis’ soccer team kept cruising along, picking up its sixth win in seven games on Tuesday by crushing the Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders 4-1.
“We controlled them the whole first half,” stated Tyrone sophomore Gavin Tuskovich. “They got a lucky goal that kept them in the game but in the second half we picked it up and finished them off.”
At the start of the game, the Marauders scored into their own goal to put the Golden Eagles up 1-0.
Nine minutes later, the Marauders’ Lincoln Dom scored making to tie the game.
B-A junior Noah Gulvas then netted his first goal of the year, scoring at the 7:29 mark to send Tyrone into halftime up 2-1.
In the second half, Tytus Novak and Karter Bokulich six minutes apart to allow the Eagle to pull away.
With the win, the Golden Eagles improved to 6-1 and third in the Laurel Highlands Conference, just behind Somerset, and Bedford.
“We showed great physicality early on, and we dominated in the second half putting consistent shots on goal,” stated Bokulich.” Our defense was a force, and we need to maintain that strength as the season progresses.”
Tuskovich and Novak also logged assists for Tyrone.
The Eagles play Thursday September 18 at Central.
Girls Soccer Slump Stretch to Five
Injuries left the Tyrone/Bellwood-Antis girls’ soccer team shorthanded on Monday against the Bishop Guilfoyle Lady Marauders.
After starting the season off 1-0-1, the girls have dropped their last five matches and now stand at 1-5-1.
The Bishop Guilfoyle Lady marauders led the Lady Eagles 3-0 going into the half.
“Losing a game is never easy, and it’s okay to feel disappointed after giving our best effort on the field,” stated Tyrone junior Allie Blaska. “By reflecting on what went wrong and supporting each other, we can identify areas to improve in our skills, teamwork, and strategy.”
Starting the second half, the Lady Marauders scored 2 more goals to make it 5-0 before Tyrone sophomore Kadence Berry scored on an assist by Bellwood-Antis senior Hailey Loupe, making the score 5-1.
The Lady Marauders shut down any momentum with another goal of their own to set the final.
“I think we played a good game. We were missing a few key players so we had to try to work around that,” stated Tyrone Junior Sarah Chichester. “The biggest thing to take away is that we need to keep our heads up and remember that were a team. We lost together but we can also win together if we stay focused.”
BG came into the game as one of the region’s premier teams and the Lady Marauders remained undefeated. They are now 8-0.
