Veterans Day is a day to remember the people who serve or have served our country.
At Bellwood-Antis, one of those people is Mr. David Plummer, who served as a Cavalry Scout and Infantry Scout in the Army.
He celebrates Veterans Day by taking the time to call or text his family members who served, and wish them a happy Veterans Day. He also posts pictures and tags his old Veteran buddies to celebrate the good memories with them. Sometimes, they even just call each other to catch up on life.
Mr. Plummer said he also likes to spend the day in the woods, and his family even has a Veterans Day small game hunt.
Being in the military, he said, taught him a lot about leadership and responsibility.
“There are many opportunities to advance,” Mr. Plummer said.
He spent a lot of time training and taking instructor courses, asĀ well as instructing in communication systems, and technology and weapons systems. He ranked sergeant (E5) before his ETS.
Mr. Plummer’s advice for those thinking about joining the military: its a commitment that you should take very seriously, and that it will absolutely provide you many opportunities to better yourself.
“Take advantage of the benefits associated with your service,” he said.
Mr. Plummer used his education benefits to completely pay for his college tuition and expenses. He says it was a great opportunity and students should do there research before making a commitment.
Ultimately, being a Veteran to Mr. Plummer means that you committed yourself to do your part to support your country and fellow citizens. It means you understand and appreciate American values, rights, and freedoms.
Mr. Plummer said any student who is interested in learning more about the benefits of service is always welcome to see him.
