The Lady Blue Devils traveled to Tyrone on Monday night for this heated rivalry. The teams played for Mental Health Awareness Night, which raised thousands of dollars to benefit the Altoona Veterans Administration’s mental health program. Bellwood-Antis lost by a decent margin, with a final score of 56-41.
Despite the loss, B-A junior Lilly Gerwert and senior Jenna Norton both had solid performances. Gerwert had 14 points with eight rebounds, and Norton had 10 points. Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to defeat Tyrone.
On Tyrone’s side, sophomore Brielle Parker led Tyrone to the win with her 16 points, which was the most in the game. Junior Alayna Woomer also helped secure the win with her 10 points.
This is the second time Bellwood-Antis and Tyrone have played each other this season, and B-A has lost both of these times.
Prior to their matchup against Tyrone, the Lady Blue Devils played at home against the Clearfield Bison on Friday night. This was a very close matchup between these two teams. B-A ended up losing the game, with a final score of 68-60.
Bellwood-Antis was behind for most of the game. Clearfield outscored them in every quarter.
Gerwert also had an impressive outing in this game, putting up a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Isabella Sloey also played well, dropping 11 points.
“We need to play together and learn how to handle pressure,” Norton said.
With these two recent losses, B-A now has a record of 7-6 this season.
The Lady Blue Devils will play away against Forest Hills on Friday night. The game will start at 7:30.
