The purpose of the event for a student to purchase a ticket for a chance to pop a water balloon on their favorite teacher’s head during homeroom on February 21. Tickets are 1 for $1 or 10 for $5 and will be sold during lunches.
The teachers who are participating for this event are: Mr. Barr, Ms. Shimel, Mr. Wood, Mr. Hallahan, Mr. Lovrich, Mr. Hughes, Mr. McNaul, Mrs. Flarend, Mr. Sachse, Mr. Schreier, Mr. Rhone, and Mrs. Cramer.
But why is the Polar Pop so important?
“I think it’s important because it helps raise money and brings awareness for the Special Olympics,” Mr. McNaul comments.
Mr. Hallahan added, “I’ve always wanted to do a Polar Plunge, and it also helps bring local awareness.”
But, what is a Polar Pop? What’s a Polar Plunge? Are the two related?
In fact, they are very much related. The Polar Plunge consists of a large group of people running and jumping into a body of water such as a lake or an ocean, and up until the COVID era B-A students participated in the local Polar Plunge, which is held at Canoe Creek. It is also the inspiration for the Polar Pop. The Polar Pop is popping a balloon of cold water over someone else’s head, which is considered a safer and more convenient way to fundraise.
Both fundraisers are used and go to the Special Olympics.
Since 2021, Bellwood-Antis, both students and staff, have proudly participated in the fundraiser, which is broadcast live to the student body during homeroom.
