What began in August with students collecting money in cans at Bellwood’s first football game against Penns Valley will culminate this week in the biggest event in the school year.
Mini-THON is this Friday, February 28!
Mini-THON is sponsored by the Blue Diamonds for the fight against childhood cancer. It is a yearlong fundraising event where one special day combines all of the hard work and celebrates the money raised.
Last year, THON raised a little over $24,000. This year, the committee has hopes of making over $20,000 again!
“It’s going to be close to our total from last year, but I’ll take the under,” said Mr. Hallahan, who advises Mini-THON along with Mr. Elder.
Mini-THON started at Bellwood-Antis in 2018, and through the years B-A has raised well over $132,000 for the Blue Diamonds.
Mini-THON will be starting after third lunch around 1 o’clock. The committee is encouraging students to bring board games and card games!
Other activities include a volleyball tournament, as well as a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, corn hole, and Kan-Jam. Other activities include board games, video games, and arts and crafts. There will be trivia games in the media center and food like pizza, hoagies, and snacks.
All it takes to get into THON is a donation of $10. This can be paid on Friday.
“We wanted it to be better than last year because of it being our senior year,” senior Ava Patton, who’s helping to lead the THON committee for the second year.
Her classmate, Avah hassler, said they learned from trial and error last year.
“After last year we know what works and what doesn’t,” she said.
The kids who are a part of the committee are excited to see everything come together after planning and prepping for months.
THON will conclude tonight with a dance beginning at 6:30 where the THON committee will officially announce this year’s fundraising totals at 8:30.
