It’s safe to say it has been nothing but a bumpy road for the Bellwood-Antis baseball team this year.
After starting the season off strong with a walk-off win over Williamsburg, that game was followed by 3 straight losses. Then B-A suddenly caught a spark and went on a fabulous 3-game winning streak before losing to Bellefonte 7-1, Bald Eagle Area 2-1, and now Tyrone 8-4 following a Backyard Brawl game on Tuesday.
That puts them in the depths of a 3-game losing streak once again.
Last season, back in April of 2024, when Tyrone and B-A met, Tyrone flew past Bellwood in a 5-3 victory. B-A definitely didn’t forget that considering the way the offense showed up this week. Two of B-A’s big bats would smack homers, but it just wasn’t enough to surpass the Golden Eagles 15 hits.
B-A came out strong in the first, acquiring a quick 3-0 lead, which may have upset the Golden Eagles a bit as they answered with some runs of their own in the second, jumping the score up to 4-3. Once Tyrone answered, they didn’t look back.
B-A’s defense would hold strong in the third and fourth, not allowing a single run to cross the plate, but as the fifth inning rolled around the Eagles soared in for the kill and tacked on 4 more runs to give them some insurance. The Blue Devils didn’t give up and still fought to the end, scoring 1 more in the seventh.
Matt Berkowitz and Chase Plummer both played phenomenally despite the loss, with each smacking homers. Berkowitz would go 2-for-3, driving in 2 runs and belting a double to go along with his homer. As for Plummer, he would go 3-for-4 while scoring 2 runs with 2 RBIs to go along with his homer.
The loss brings Bellwood’s record down to 4-6, but they will look to make that 5-6 Thursday when they travel to Central Cambria to take on the Red Devils at 4:30pm. The Red Devils will be walking into this game red hot coming off of their third straight win. Bellwood’s pitching is going to have to work extra hard to contain these Central Cambria’s hitters, as they currently average 7.2 runs per game.
The Red Devils as of right now have a record of 9-2, but B-A will hopefully change their record to 9-3. The Blue Devils are 1-2 on the road, so we will see if the road trip plays any type of affect.
