Baseball boys take down Juniata Valley
The Blue Devil baseball team kicked its season off with a bang against Juniata Valley yesterday at home.
The Blue Devils played their hardest and managed to come out with a 5-0 victory.
Senior Chad Luensmann, who is signed to play with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, held the Hornets to just three hits and struck out nine in the shutout. Luensmann also had two hits, including a grand slam in the fourth inning.
“It was a good start to the season and it was nice to finally play a game,” said baseball coach Steve Conlon. “Chad pitched pretty well for the first time this year. Our defense was solid behind him. It took some time for our bats to come alive, but Chad, Jordan McCracken, Trenton Creppage, and Joey Padula hit the ball well. Overall, it was a good start for us.”
Along with Luensmann, Jordan McCracken and Randy Zitterbart both had two hits. Zitterbart hit a double and McCracken added an RBI.
The Blue Devils had 8 hits total.
The Blue Devil baseball team’s record is 1-0.
