All grades of the high school gathered in the gym in the afternoon of January 16 to watch four different teams take on the B-A facility in a beneficial MiniThon basketball game, which the teachers won in a 49-28 five-quarter game.
Despite a marginal win, the game showed its effect on the facility as many teachers were missing from their rooms as school resumed Tuesday morning. In an effort to determine what happened to these teachers, multiple students stopped in the office to question High School Principal Mr. Richard Schreier, who then released a statement as well as an Injury Reserve report on the staff.
Here is the Released IR Report from Tuesday:
Mr. Kerry Naylor #13 – Suffered an ACL Tear during the Final Quarter while missing a layup, (Out for Multiple Months)
Mr. Thomas Partner #30 – Suffered broken tailbone while sitting too hard on the bench, (Out for 4-6 weeks)
Mr. Shawn Hallihan – Suffered high ankle sprain while moving across court, (Out for 6-12 weeks)
Mr. Robert Bateman – Jammed Finger, (Out for 3-4 weeks)
While these are the only injuries that made the chart, all of the teachers are complaining about the soreness and exhaustion endured from the game, despite an extended weekend of rest.
Mr. Richard Schreier and the Bellwood-Antis School Board will now be on the search for subs to not only fill the shoes of the teachers in the classroom, but also on the court if the event of a surprise game where the teacher’s athleticism and leadership would be needed again to get the win. Multiple NBA practice squads are the reported “first options” for where scouting will occur.
