For the past eight years, Rachel Gormont has been dedicated to horseback riding, building her skills in the sport.
Gormont has been riding horses since 2018.
She has her own horse, Journey, who’s retired, and she leases a horse, Sunny, that she shows.
“I have always loved horses. Once I started riding, I never wanted to stop,” Gormont said.
Her favorite thing about horseback riding is showing and connecting with the horse. One of her favorite memories from her horseback riding career was attending WEC Ohio for a week.
Gormont has also attended Heritage Acres and Swan Lake. She has earned multiple ribbons with her horse and they were close to earning reserve champion a few times. They earned 2nd place at WEC Ohio, which she views as a big accomplishment.
The class in which Gormont competes now does not offer cash prizes, but others do, and she intends to enter those eventually, maybe even as soon as this summer.
Gormont often attends shows that require a lot of traveling, frequently making trips to Ohio, but those opportunities don’t come without difficulties.
Gormont says, “Sometimes, when I miss days of school for horses, it is hard to catch back up.”
Her next show will go down this weekend back at Swan Lake.
