The Bellwood-Antis boys’ basketball team played two games over the weekend against the Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs and the Tussey Mountain Titans. They took care of business in both games, improving their record to 5-0 on the year and keeping their momentum going into the a big holiday tournament next week.

We still have a lot to get better at, but we have the ability to beat anyone we play this season.

Friday night, the Blue Devils beat down Claysburg with a final score of 85-48. The game was never close, with B-A up double digits early with a score of 24-13 after the first quarter. Once they gained the lead in the game, there was no looking back, never relinquishing it until finally putting the game away in the fourth quarter.

Despite the lopsided win, most players felt they could have started better against the Bulldogs.

“We need to start stronger and not wait until after halftime to play good defense, but a win is a win, and we’ll learn from it and make it better,” said Junior Jarrett Tanneyhill.

“We started out slow and let them hang around,” said sophomore Trent Walker. “We picked it up in the second half and played like we know how.”

Saturday afternoon, the Blue Devils played in another blowout game against Tussey Mountain, winning with a final score of 68-21.

Tussey never scored more than 6 points in a quarter. Nathan Davis and Trent Walker led the Devils in scoring with 13 points each.

“We finally played a full four quarters as a team and it showed. We shared the ball and came out with a big win,” said Senior Noah D’Angelo about the game.

Walker said the victories put B-A in a good spot heading into the Northern Blair County Kiwanis Holiday Tournament next week in Tyrone.

“We’re a very good all-around team,” he said. “We still have a lot to get better at, but we have the ability to beat anyone we play this season.”
