The Tyrone/Bellwood-Antis soccer teams celebrates its upset win over Bellefonte in the District 6 3A semifinals.

The Tyrone/Bellwood-Antis co-op boys soccer team battled Bellefonte in the District 6 3A semifinals on Monday night at Rogers Stadium.

Bellefonte sat at a record of 12-1 and was the number one seed. The Red Raiders were flying high going into this game, scoring lots of goals and playing tough on defense all season.

It looked the like Raiders would run away with another high-scoring win last night, but three second-half goals, including one in the final 15 seconds from a Bellwood-Antis senior, was enough to shut down Bellefonte and send Tyrone into the championship game.

“I was beyond proud of our resiliency,” said Tyrone/B-A coach Alex Bartlett. “At Bellefonte, versus Bellefonte, all the cards staked against us, and we still went up there and prevailed.”

Tyrone improved to 7-11, while Bellefonte ended its season 12-2.

Bellefonte broke out to lead by a score of 3-1 in the second half, but Tyrone came firing back late in the game. The Eagles scored two goals to tie the game 3-3. The first came from Aiden Taylor and the second from his brother Alex to knot the score.

With under 30 seconds to play, senior Alex Taylor scored the game winning goal off an assist from Kolten Raabe, to upset the Red Raiders 4-3.

“It was great considering we got blown out twice by them before that,” said Brendan. “Everyone stepped up and nobody had a bad game. There were mistakes, but we compensated for that with dedication.”

The Eagles advance to the district championship game at Mansion Park on Thursday night. Tyrone will take on the second seeded Hollidaysburg, which has compiled a 6-5 record.

“If we play like we did against Bellefonte, we can win,” said Andrews.
