Dawn Frank is one from a handful of math teachers at Bellwood-Antis who also serves as the Math Department Chairperson. Mrs. Frank thoroughly enjoys teaching math, which she has done for 30 years, with calculus being her favorite discipline.

She has also taught Computer Science and Public Speaking.’

When done correctly, all pieces fit perfectly with a satisfying outcome.

— Mrs. Frank

Mrs. Frank compares math to a puzzle: “When done correctly, all pieces fit perfectly with a satisfying outcome.”

The vision of teaching math crystalized for Mrs. Frank in senior high, although she knew teaching was her future as far back as junior high. She had always done well in math, but hard work and perseverance got her a job. From that perspective, you could say innate ability was out of the equation.

Throughout her math journey, Mrs. Frank’s teaching was most influenced by her high school calculus teacher and her student teacher mentor.

Though Mrs. Frank has taught many areas of math on many different levels, she feels the top classes may be most challenging because it can be hard to “‘teach’ conceptual concepts.”

Mrs. Frank said the best way to describe a typical day for her is “busy.”

“I teach 6 of 8 periods with 6 different preps,” she said. She even offers students help during her free period! “Never a dull moment as a teacher.”

Mrs. Frank has 2 kids who  use loads of math in their respective fields. One son is 22-year-old civil engineer and the other is a 19-year-old PT major at SFU. She said she loves to spend time with during game night.

On her own time Mrs. Frank likes to read and listen to music. She is a wonderful person and teacher, and everyone at Bellwood adores her.
