The FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) started its annual cereal drive last Tuesday with hopes of breaking previous records.
The FCA is asking for cereal boxes that will then be donated to the St. Vincent DePaul, which serves all of Blair County.
There should be a box in every student’s homeroom, labeled FCA cereal drive. Over the next several weeks, students bring cereal boxes in to place in the boxes, and whichever homeroom collects the most boxes wins a pizza party.
The cereal drive is directed and managed by FCA advisor, Mr. Nick Lovrich. This is a district-wide event, and the group is asking anyone and everyone to help.
“The main purpose of the cereal drive is to help supply the pantry with cereal so families are able to provide breakfast for their families,” Mr. Lovrich said.
The record for the most boxes collected in one year came in 2015 when the FCA amassed 1,517 boxes of cereal. The group frequently collects more than 1,000 boxes. Group members take the boxes to the pantry personally when the drive is finished.
Breakfast is often considered the most important meal of the day, so bring in cereal boxes to help someone in need.
