On Wednesday, the Bellwood-Antis cross country team traveled to Portage for the Laurel Highlands championship.
The boys and girls team both found success and placed strong times.
On the boys side there were five runners who ran under 20:00.00. Junior Cameron Gallagher led the pack and placed 31st with a time of 18:22.40. McCaulley Corle (62) and Martin Fatzinger (64) followed with times just under 19:40.00.
“I feel surprised… I never thought I would make it this far in cross country,” Gallagher commented.
Sophomores’ Keagan Shanafelt (72) and Domanick Halerz (73) finished strong both receiving times of 19:56.80.
The boys team concluded the meet in 11th place.
The girls had six runners finish in the top 100. Sophomore Blake Pennington PR’d and placed 21st with a time of 20:49.10. Julie Kraft (33) raced a 21:08.20. Rylie Andrews (43) and Peyton Hammond (46) ended with times just over 22:00.00.
Pennington exclaimed, “It was very exciting. I felt strong during the race, and everyone had great times and performances. I am proud of all my teammates. Overall, I was just happy to be out there getting the opportunity to run.”
Chloe Stoltzfus (65) competed with a time of 23:33.70, and Ava Franks (91) finished in 25:13.40.
The girls team ended the race in 7th place.
The teams now prepare to race at the Blair Huntingdon County meet on 10/21. The meet starts at 4:30 and will be held at the Logan Elementary School.
