The B-A boys dropped their seventh in a row but saw some promise in their youth. Friday night, the Blue Devils hosted an experienced Chestnut Ridge team. B-A competed for most of the game; however, fell short in the fourth quarter.
Bellwood-Antis lost with a final score of 62-51.
The Blue Devils are faced with some inexperience creating some offensive struggles early on in the season. However, the youth shined in this game with sophomores’ Jackson Dorminy and Curtis Shedlock leading the offensive charge.
Dorminy registered a season-high 18 points and Shedlock followed with 15 of his own.
“I was able to drive to the rim and finish well,” Dorminy stated. “Our tight defense kept us in the game.”
The Blue Devils led with a score of 30-29 going into the second half. Ultimately, the Lions big fourth quarter where they scored 26 points finalized the score.
Chestnut Ridge’s offense rode behind senior Justin Whysong who totaled 29 points.
B-A now travels to Bald Eagle Area Tuesday night at 7:15. The boys look to pick up their first win against a 1-7 Bald Eagle team.
The B-A girls easily won their game, with a final score of 67-29. Bellwood-Antis had full control of this game the entire time. The score at halftime was 36-14.
For the Lady Blue Devils, junior Lilly Gerwert scored a game-high of 15 points. Senior Leigha Clapper also played a part in the win, having 11 points and 6 assists on the night. Freshman Isabella Sloey came into the game and dropped 10 points, as well as seven rebounds and six steals.
Chestnut Ridge girls’ basketball team has yet to get a win this season, making them 0-9. This win puts Bellwood-Antis at 6-4.
“It was a team effort,” Clapper says. “We played with more than just 5 to 6 people. We are looking to not lose focus. We can’t let wins take our focus off of teams that need our full attention.”
B-A will play their next game against Bellefonte on Wednesday. It will start at 7:30.
