On February 2, in Punxsutawney, Pa, Punxsutawney Phil who is also named the “Official meteorologist of Pennsylvania” by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, gave his prognostication this morning at Gobblers Knob. Punxsutawney Phil is a groundhog who predicts 6 more weeks of winter, or an early spring.

The furry groundhog emerged from his home and gave us his prediction. He saw his shadow and there will be 6 more weeks of winter.

This event started back in 1887, and since then Groundhog Day has become so popular that thousands of people flock to Gobbler’s Knob each year to celebrate the event. It even spawned the 1993 cult classic movie Groundhog Day, starring Bill Murray.

Punxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow 109 times, which means he hasn’t seen his shadow 29 times.

Roughly 40,000 braved the cold to come out and watch Punxsy Phil made his prediction.

Punxsutawney Phil will now go back home and make his next prediction on February 2, 2027
