The number one player on the Bellwood-Antis golf team, Maddox McCall, is this week’s Sensational Sophomore.

Maddox  participates in golf, baseball, and is a part of FCA.

While only in tenth grade, he already has some major accomplishments, including last year going to sectionals for golf and barely missing the cut.

”He teaches me a lot and I learn from him. He is really good and is better than me. I think right now, on the high school level, he could compete with Justin Thomas,” said fellow golf team member Tate Baughman.

For the upcoming year, Maddox has goals for making districts for golf. Last year the projected cut to go was +13 and he missed it by 3 strokes.

Maddox is also a great student within the walls of Bellwood-Antis High School, but even his teachers recognize his talents on the links.

“He is enchanted with golf. He goes to a golf simulator daily. The kid is going to be good,” Mr. Rhone said.

Maddox favorite class is Computer Apps 2 with Mr. Hallahan. He said he loves how it’s easy and how fun the class can be.

His favorite thing about school is being in 8th period study hall with his friends.

”Eighth period study hall is clutch because it is at the end of the day and you get to relax before going home to Tate’s golf simulator,” Maddox said.

Outside of school, Maddox likes to golf with his friends and play ROBLOX with Quinn Leeper. But still, he can’t wait until Sinking Valley’s Golf Course is open in the spring. He has major aspirations  of one day owning a golf course down in the warm south.

His friends are big supporters of his golf game, thinking he can do something big.

”Maddox is the best golfer I have seen in a while. He is going to be on tour one day,” Avery Bardell said.

Outside of the game he loves, one thing that is always on Maddox’s mind is the Pittsburg Steelers. He is a major fan, with high hopes for a Super Bowl within the next 10 years. He is not so sure, though, about the hiring of Mike McCarthy, a former Cowboys coach.
