Matchbox Twenty: a band to listen to
November 5, 2015
You know those songs that just hit you with a wave of nostalgia? Or those songs you can always jam to, but if somebody asked you who sang it, you wouldn’t know? Matchbox Twenty happens to be one of those artists. They’re most known for their songs “Unwell” and “How Far We’ve Come.”
Matchbox Twenty was formed in Orlando, Florida in 1996. Their lead singer/pianist is Rob Thomas. He was born in Germany, but later went to high school at Lake Brantley High School in Florida. The band also includes a mandolin player, Kyle Cook; an additional pianist, Paul Doucette; a bass guitar player, Brian Yale; and a rhythm guitar player, Adam Gaynor.
Their debut album called Yourself or Someone Like You, released in 1996, includes the song “3 A.M.,” which has come out to be one of their most popular. Their most recent album, “North” was released in 2012 and includes “Our Song” and “She’s So Mean.” Songs such as “Unwell,” “How Far We’ve Come”, and “If You’re Gone” are pretty much known across the nation for their iconic lyrics such as I’m not crazy, I’m just a little unwell (Unwell – Exile on Mainstream) and I believe the world is burning to the ground. Oh well I guess we’re gonna find out. Let’s see how far we’ve come. (How Far We’ve Come – Exile on Mainstream)
I believe Matchbox Twenty is an underrated band that holds a deep meaning with their lyrics along with fun, upbeat tempos.
Also, they’re an easy listen. Whether you’re sad a need songs to really listen to and digest the lyrics, or you’re happy and you need something to jam to, Matchbox twenty has got your back.
