Colin Gibbons is a slotback and cornerback for the Bellwood-Antis football team. He leads the team with five interceptions, while also ranking third for receiving yards per game and rushing yards per game. He is currently positioned second for receiving touchdowns, making him a versatile player for the team.
Colin is our Athlete of the Week.
Before last week’s matchup against River Valley, Gibbons said he had to mentally and physically lock in. “I locked in mentally and physically, and watched Ding Productions hardest hits.”
He sparked the Blue Devils win with 4 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown in the 42-16 win. As a senior, he has adapted to being a leader during his last year.
”I am able to be a vocal leader for this team, and give them someone to lean on when we are down.”
As the season is inching closer to the end, Colin and his team have their eyes on the prize. “We want to compete in and win the District 6 Championship,” he said.
Over his football career, he has totaled 155 carries, 950 yards, 9 interceptions, 144 tackles, and 9 tackles. He gives credit to his teammates that have made this program what it is today.
”We have put a lot of work in, both in the offseason and now,” Gibbons said. “We all depend on each other to step up and make plays when others can’t.”
From having a 2-8 record during his sophomore year to now having back-to-back winning seasons with playoff wins and championship looks, the team is striving for not only success, but to also prove doubters wrong.
Colin Gibbons and the Bellwood-Antis football team travel to take on the Richland Rams in the District 6 semifinals tonight at 7. Good luck boys!
