Back in 1995, you could catch Jess Turner and Mike Kenawell at the track … but you couldn’t catch them.

When people think of Bellwood-Antis’s track team they think of the wins and championships from recent years, but those winning ways started back in the 1990s and beyond.

This week we go back to 1995, to when two particular seniors shined in track.

Senior hurdler, Jessica Turner, and senior Sprinter, Michael Kenawell, were both Altoona Mirror Athletes of the week for their outstanding performances.

Both senior stars advanced to districts.

Turner ran four events every track meet. Her lineup usually included the 100 dash, 200 dash, 300 low hurdles, and 100 hurdles. According to the Hylite, she was willing to help her teammates in events.

Kenawell was a consistent triple place winner for Bellwood-Antis. His events included the 110 high hurdles, 100 dash, 200 dash, and he was significant contributor to the success if the 400 relay team.

That season, Kenawell was named the Outstanding Runner at the prestigious Bellwood-Antis Invitational meet.
