Evan Pellegrine continued his hot start to the season with a third-place finish in a huge team tournament over the weekend.

Last weekend,  the Bellwood-Antis wrestling team participated in a 44-team Panther Classic tournament in Cresson.  The Blue Devils finished 26th out of the 44 teams, finishing above local teams such as Tyrone, Penn’s Valley, and Everett, and managed to get one senior wrestler on the winner’s podium.

Standout heavyweight Evan Pellegrine shined, as he ended the day with a third place finish after losing and fighting back through the losers bracket.

Pellegrine, a three sport athlete at B-A, was still able to find time in the off-season to train hard, and hone his skills on the wrestling mat.

“I’m very happy with third place, but I felt I should have won it,” said Pellegrine. “I ended up the kids who had beaten me in the quarterfinals and sending me to the losers bracket in the third place match.”

Coach Tim Andrekovich was happy with his senior.

“I thought that Evan had a great tournament. He came back and beat a real good wrestler from Marion Center who beat him Friday night to take third,” said Coach Andrekovich.

He also thought the tournament was a good way to get an early feel for where his team stands.

“I saw a lot of good things from everyone of our guys,” Coach Andrekovich said.  “The Penn Cambria tournament is one of the best in the state. There were teams from seven state, even Colorado. It was a good way to measure where we need to be by Districts.”

The Blue Devils hit the road on tonight to face the Claysburg-Kimmell Bulldogs in hopes of adding to their ICC win total.
