Freshman Ned Smearman is one of 6 B-A swimmers competing in the District 6 championships this week.

The Tyrone/Bellwood-Antis/Bishop Guilfoyle combined swim team has ended their regular season, but for 6 B-A swimmers they aren’t finished just yet.

The swimmers will compete in the District 6 Championship February 23rd and 24th at Penn State University.

Bellwood-Antis members of the swim team whose times qualified them for districts are:

  • Evalyna Aiken – 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle, and 400 relay
  • Blake Pennington – 200 freestyle relay
  • Spencer Dunklebarger – 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 200 medley relay, and 200 free relay
  • Cameron Gallagher – 50 and 100 freestyle, 200 medley relay, and 200 freestyle relay
  • Ned Smearman – 50 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay
  • Cameron Nelson – travelling as an alternate in 400 freestyle relay

Seniors Evalyna Aiken and Spencer Dunklebarger are now both 4 year district qualifiers, sophomore Cameron Gallagher is making his second straight appearance, and freshmen Blake Pennington, Ned Smearman, and Cameron Nelson are making their first appearance at a district meet.

The Tyrone 2A boys are seeded second in both the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay. Spencer Dunklebarger is seeded third in the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle.

Swimming coach, Tom Getz, says that Bellwood has been a main contributor to the swim team and will be for the District meet. He has high expectations for the meet.

“Overall I have high expectations for the meet and I am looking forward to all the swimmers improving their times and their seeds at the meet,” he said.

Winners of each event will automatically qualify for the state meet at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, 2A will be held March 15-16. Swimmers who don’t win still have the chance to qualify for states based on times against other districts’ qualifying meets.
