ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Nick Plank
Senior Nick Plank is a star fullback and linebacker on the Blue Devil football team.
In B-A’s most recent game the Devils shut out Glendale with an impressive score of 47-0. Plank rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown on only 9 carries. In addition to his strong night on the ground, he also caught one pass for 20 yards and had an interception.
Plank is the BluePrint’s Athlete of the Week.
Bellwood has been firing on all cylinders throughout the first few weeks of the season as they sit at a 3-0 record. The Blue Devils have looked good on both offense and defense, posting back-to-back shutouts and averaging 43 points per game.
Plank’s start to the season didn’t originally go as planned. He suffered an ankle injury in the Central scrimmage, which kept him out of most of the season opener and hampered him against Everett. He looked to be back in the swing of things in week 3 as he had a breakout game against Glendale.
This is the type of production the Blue Devils are used to seeing out of Plank. In his junior season he rushed for 974 yards and over 7.5 yards per carry. He seemed to have a knack for finding the end zone too, scoring 15 touchdowns last year.
Plank isn’t only a threat on offense, but on defense as well. In his career he has 181 total tackles, 118 of them being solo; and 63 assists.
Plank has also been very successful on the baseball diamond as well. In his freshman year he was the designated hitter for a talented Blue Devil team. He had a .358 batting average and recorded 14 RBI’s. He put up similar numbers in his sophomore year as the starting catcher. Unfortunately Covid-19 canceled the 2020 spring season so Nick did not have his junior baseball season. Through two years Plank has a batting average of .399 and has 55 hits.
Plank is a good athlete and an important part of the Blue Devil football team. Bellwood intends to keep their foot on the gas as they travel to
