Welcome back to, Chalked Up. This week’s blog is all about how my weightlifting journey started.

I originally started at Dormans Sports Performance as one of the athletes going for strength training, which would hopefully improve my athletic abilities in my sports. One day at the gym Fred Dorman had me try out weightlifting and I really liked it but didn’t want to compete or be on the team. For a while I continued lifting as a small part of my strength training and eventually was convinced to do a small home meet. After tons of convincing I finally said I’d do it but refused to weigh in or wear a singlet.

I ended up doing well, going 6 for 6, but still did not want to compete because I had set in my mind that I was not going to wear a singlet. Not to long after that meet my one friend from the gym, who was on the team, finally convinced me to get a singlet and just try it out. I remember that day sitting on my front porch thinking she was crazy for even trying to get me to wear one, but little did I know she was going to convince me.

Surprisingly, I ended up doing my next meet in a singlet. Its crazy to think I almost didn’t compete just because of the uniform. I’ve never been so happy with a decision I’ve made. A few weeks ago I competed in my 7th meet since I started. Continue reading these weekly blogs to keep up with my weightlifting journey.
