On Thursday, a 9-year-old record was broken by Lexi Lovrich i the Lady Devils’ track meet against West Branch and Williamsburg at Memorial Stadium.

Lovrich had set a new record of 11:25 in the 3200m run, destroying the old record of 11:41 set by Ellen Crook in 2014. Lovrich was shooting for the record after missing it by 0.3 seconds at the Shippensburg Invitational less than a week earlier.

“Lexi has been an amazing person to coach, says B-A girls head track and field coach Jen Soisson. “Lexi started this school year with specific goals and intentions. She joined cross country to gain more running experience in order to run at the collegiate level. This focus carried into her spring track season with the added goal of breaking the two mile record. She has been running four events for most meets which has helped the team out a lot. Lexi’s self discipline and laser focus on achieving her goals gives her such an advantage as a competitor. Her ability to give and receive feedback sets her and the team up for success each day at practice and meets.”

With help from teammates pacing her, Lovrich was able to get ahead of pace for the first mile. In the final lap, she passed her teammate pacers and took first in the race where she was greeted by her teammates and family.

“I have wanted this for so long, and it feels great to finally be reaching my goals. I’m so happy all my hard work has paid off,” says Lovrich.
