Last night the Bellwood-Antis Blue Devil boys’ basketball team traveled away from home and stung the Juniata Valley Hornets boys’ basketball team.

At first the Blue Devils and the Hornets were neck and neck; then the Blue Devils stepped it up.  Using a lot of their teamwork the Blue Devils came out on top with a 78-53 victory over the Hornets.

Three of the Blue Devils scored double figures.

Junior Nathan Davis led the team with 22 points.  Sophomore Joey Padula helped out with 14 points.  Sophomore Ethan McGee scored 10 points and junior Jake Burch scored 7.

“Juniata Valley played tough in the beginning, and we came out a little bit sluggish,” Burch said.  “However, in the second half we came out much more intense and started getting stops on defense, which let us open the game up.  We have to get focused and mentally ready for Friday at West Branch.”

Davis said, “We came out pretty flat in the first half, which I guess is expected after three straight days off.  We really picked it up though in the second half and started to get stops on defense.  We are really excited for West Branch, it’ll be a great game.”

The Blue Devils record is now 12-5, and they travel to West Branch Friday.  The Warriors are 15-1, and their only loss came against the Blue Devils on December 22.

Also last night the Lady Blue Devils stomped the West Branch Lady Warriors at home 91-24.

Senior Kelly Leamer was the game’s high scorer with 20, and sophomore Karson Swogger was close behind with 19.  Ana Hollen tallied 15.

B-A led 68-13 at halftime.

Senior Selena Damiano said, “We still have to work hard and play together to prepare for better, harder games.”
