The Bellwood-Antis boys track and field team is ready to get its seasons started off hot on Tuesday.
The Blue Devils seem to always find success, and they aren’t expecting anything different this year.
Last year the boys finished with an overall record of 9-4, and a conference record of 6-4.
The Blue Devils are ready to show off their depth this year, as they have 11 letter winners who are returning to the team. Four of these athletes are seniors. Mcaulley Corle and Holden Schreier will be coming back to run distance, along with Cayden Pellegrine and Ethan Sharff, who are coming back to throw.
B-A’s returners have seen a lot of competitive meets and should have no problem performing under pressure.
Pellegrine is looking to bounce back from an injury this season after hurting his shoulder while leading the Blue Devils football team. He has a lot of confidence in the track team to find success and go far in districts and states.
“My throwing shoulder is fine, so I am not too concerned about it impacting my performance,” said Pellegrine. “This track season will be my final time ever playing an organized sport again. I’m going to focus on having a good time with the people on the team for one last time, and working towards qualifying for states in May.”
Holden Schreier has a positive outlook for his final season as a Blue Devil.
“Even though we lost a lot of good athletes, we’re all optimistic that people will step up and be able to fill the roles,” said Schreier.
There has been a lot of preparation going into preparing for the start of the season. Head coach Nick Lovrich has been working his guys daily to get them fully ready for the upcoming season. With an all-time record of 298-33-2 going into his 25th season, Lovrich is no rookie, and he’s had plenty of success.
“We have some good returners coming back from last year who should be able to step up,” said Lovrich. “We also have a lot of newcomers. We’re a very young team with a lot of freshmen and sophomores who are out for the team. We’re excited to see what they can bring.”
Other returning letter-winners for the Blue Devils include:
Juniors: Martin Fatzinger (distance), Colin Gibbons (sprints), Brady Hostler (sprints), Jayce Quick (throws).
Sophomores: Ethan Shawley (sprints), Ned Smearman (sprints), Jeffery Waite (sprints).
“We would like to improve individually and as a team throughout the season,” Coach Lovrich said. “We would like to do well in our conference this season and improve on our performances in the big meets at the end of the year.”
The boys will begin their season at Bald Eagle starting at 4:00. Bellefonte will also be competing in the meet.
Good Luck to our Blue Devils.
