The Bellwood-Antis girls and boys basketball teams each lost big games over the weekend, falling in rivalry games in front of packed houses.

The Lady Blue Devils lost 66-52 against rival Bishop Guilfoyle on Saturday night in Bellwood as they were unable to keep up with the Marauders’ scoring.

From tipoff until the final buzzer, defending seemed to be a continuous struggle for the Lady Blue Devils.  The Marauders averaged 16.5 points per quarter and had two players who scored at least 20 points. Bellwood-Antis, on the other hand, only averaged 13 points per quarter with only one player scoring more than 20 points.

In the second half B-A was unable to keep up with Bishop Guilfoyle’s scoring duo of Lili Benzel and Anna Audley, as they only scored 21 points.

Karson Swogger led the Lady Blue Devils in scoring with 32 points while Riley D’Angelo added 12.

On Friday night the boys’ basketball team traveled to West Branch where they fell just short of a victory, losing 60-54.

Bellwood-Antis led West Branch 27-26 at halftime, but then came out strong in the third quarter scoring 15 making the score 41-34 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Blue Devils’ came up short in the fourth quarter after they struggled to make shots, only scoring 14 points to West Branch’s 26 points.
