LESSONS FROM THE MAN UPSTAIRS: Time to get to serious work

I’m going to say the same thing I said when I walked into the gym on the night of the Winter Lights Dance.

It’s about to get real. Real fast.

The point of these articles is to make you happy and to make you excited about life, but we need get down to business for a bit; I promise it’s going to be good, so get ready.

I write in my iPhone notes a lot—like A LOT. It’s normally just little things that I have to do or remember, but sometimes I write deeper stuff. Actually, that is completely a lie, because I am not a deep person at all. Anyways, a few months ago on March 5, 2017 at 3:43 P.M. (not that the date matters or anything but that’s what the note said), I must have been thinking about my future career because I wrote in there: my future career: begin a worldwide movement for men and women across the world to wholeheartedly love yourself. That’s right. Today, we’re going to talk about loving yourself.

This is a tough subject, I am not going to lie, but it is completely necessary to talk about. There are so many people on this earth that are constantly saying things like “I hate myself” or “why am I like this?” It is honestly the most upsetting thing to hear. It is upsetting because God sculpted each and every one of us with care and compassion and made us all amazing and wonderful in our own special way and to see us just completely bash ourselves makes Him sad. It makes me sad. It frustrates me to know that there are people out there who don’t love who they are. I think it is so cool to be my own person. It’s so cool to wake up in the morning and choose what I am going to wear today, how I am going to make people laugh today, or how I am going to spread God’s message today. It is so interesting to have a person all to yourself (I mean have yourself all to yourself, not someone else). You have the freedom to do whatever you want to do with your life; you have the freedom to dress however you want, say whatever you want, and do whatever you want.

Sometimes, when we wake up the morning and look at ourselves in the mirror, it might be hard to love yourself at times. But there is always something to love. Whether it is your eyebrows, your intelligence, your pinky toe, or whatever, there is always something to love. Sure, someone can say that they love you, and that is VERY IMPORTANT. However, before anyone can love you, you HAVE TO love yourself. No one can have your heart before you put your hand on your heart and realize you have a purpose. No one can give that to you.

It is important to be honest with yourself. If you truly do not like anything about yourself, change it. You can complain and complain ALL DAY LONG, but until some work gets done, nothing will happen and you will continue to be unhappy with yourself. Like Tony Horton says in P90X in the Legs and Back workout, “we’re about to go to serious work.”

YOU, MY FRIEND, NEED TO GET DOWN TO SERIOUS WORK. Are you unhappy about how you treat others? Be kinder. Are you unhappy with your weight? Go for a run. Are you unhappy with your hair? Cut it off. You are allowed to change things. I want you to be happy. You must put your happiness before anything else. You cannot make someone else happy before you are. I want you to be happy. No one is typing this except Jenna. She wants you to be happy with yourself. You deserve so much in this world. The world wants you here. God put you on this earth for a reason. Are you not sure what the purpose is? Go chase it. Go to serious work.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 — “Love is patient, love is kind. Love never fails.”
