On Friday, the girl’s basketball team hosted the Somerset Eagles their home opener.

The Lady Blue Devil’s were able to get it done and defeat the Eagles by a score of 62-31.

The girl’s came out of the gates hot, outscoring Somerset 22-9 in the first quarter. After a slow second quarter, only outscoring Somerset 13-9, the Blue Devil’s went in at halftime up 35-18.

A big part of Bellwood’s scoring success came from beyond the arc. They tallied 10 threes, with junior Leigha Clapper having 4 of them. Leigha was the game’s leading scorer, finishing the game with 19 points. Other top scorers for Bellwood were Lily Gerwert with 14, and Chloe Hammond with 13.

The Lady Blue Devil’s improved their record to 1-1, and look to keep their momentum going when they play Huntingdon at home on Wednesday.
