The girls’ basketball team’s regular season ended last week, with the Lady Blue Devils finishing with a record of 13-9. Yesterday they played against United, which is 14-8, in the first round of the district 6 2A playoffs and lost 37-47.
The girls finished 13-10 on the season.
In the Lady Devils’ last regular season game, they beat Penns Valley 65-48, a team they lost to at the beginning of the season.
Sophomore Karlie Sweigert was a major factor in that win and has been a key element of B-A’s resurgence. Against the Lady Rams, Sweigert had 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists with 2 steals.
Sweigert is this week’s Blueprint Athlete of the week.
Karlie has been a big part within the team averaging 6.6 points per game, 2.7 rebounds per game, 2.5 assists per game, and 1.8 steals per game. She has had some big games scoring 19 against Central Mountain and 16 against Tyrone.
But Sweigert sees her role extending beyond statistics.
“I plan to be the best teammate for my team for the remainder of my years at Bellwood,” Sweigert said.
While Sweigert still has two years to play, she has many goals for the rest of the season and to come.
“My favorite part about basketball is the relationship built with my teammates and support from the coaches,” Sweigert said.
Karlie plans to continue her athletic career and pursue a career in the medical field in college.
Best of luck to Karlie with the days to come.
