The most decorated girls wrestler in B-A history added one more accolade to a growing list of accomplishments last week.
On Saturday, at the Central Regional Wrestling Tournament at Milton High School, Bellwood-Antis senior Juliette Cuevas placed 4th in the 100-pounbd weight class and get her second bid to the PIAA state tournament.
“I’m excited to see what she can do this weekend. She is going into the tournament as more of an underdog. I believe she is capable to knock off any and all of the girls in her bracket,” said B-A wrestling coach Josh Hewitt.
Cuevas was able to go 4-2 on the day, opening with a fall before getting pinned at 1;27. She was able to respond well and take a 19-3 technical fall and a fall in 2:45. She was then able to earn a 6-3 decision win to get to third place on the day, where she then dropped a 10-1 major decision.
The top 4 girls made it to states, which takes place at the Giant Center in Hershey.
Cuevas will be heading back to the state tournament for the first time since 2024, after taking a year off from high school wrestling. That season, she was able to place 7th in the state.
She upped her record this season to 25-5, including four pins.
That experience could be a determining factor once the tournament begins.
“Confidence and attitude could play a big part in the tournament for her,” said Hewitt.
The PIAA tournament runs from March 5-7.
