The Northern Blair Kiwanis Club hosted its annual Reliance Bank Boy’s Basketball holiday tournament at Tyrone over Christmas break.

The Bellwood-Antis boys lost a pair, holding close for a half in both games before being outgunned in the second.

Because the tournament had only three entrants this year, it was run as a round-robin event with no title game.

The Blue Devils played Penn Cambria for their first game of the tournament, losing 63-38 on Wednesday night.

Bellwood kept it close throughout the whole first half, only trailing by 4 heading into the second half at 25-21. It was 28-26 with a little more than three minutes to go in the third quarter before Penn Cambria came out firing. The Panthers  outscored Bellwood 21-10 in the third quarter and 17-7 in the fourth.

It was a tough outing for the Bellwood offense due to excessive turnovers from Penn Cambria defensive pressure, which led to Bellwood shooting 13 for 33 from the floor.

A shining spot for the team was a game high 21 points coming from Anthony Caracciolo, as well as a game high 7 rebounds from Holden Schreier.

Thursday night the boys faced off against Tyrone, losing 43-70.

Just like their game against Penn Cambria, Bellwood kept it within reach for the first half of the game. After getting outscored 20-9 in the first quarter the boys got it within 12 heading into the second half. Tyrone kept the heat up and ended the game winning by 27.

Caracciolo had a game high of 23 points and was B-A’s lone representative on the All-Tournament team.
