Twenty-four years ago, Bellwood started a project to help make students aware of the importance of community service and helping people in need. The project was called “Blue Angels R Us”.
This was a project where students would pick 7 families and provide them with the necessities they may need around the holiday season, like gifts, toiletries, and clothing. Students would then tag, wrap, and bag the gifts. The gifts were then delivered to those families nearing Christmas time.
The program has lasted over the years and expanded to where it’s still going at B-A to this day, helping more than the 7 families it started with.
The 2024 Blue Angels Christmas drive began last week when Blue Angels trees were placed in all three B-A buildings. The trees are decorated with tags listing items local families in needs could use this holiday season.
From now through December 4, each student and teacher has the chance to pick a tag off the Christmas trees that have been placed in both the Myers Elementary School and the Middle/High School. Students should then purchase the item listed on the tag and bring it back into school to be donated to the Blue Angels. Those gifts will then be wrapped and placed under the tree.
This project is a great way to encourage helping those less fortunate than us and bringing joy to everyone this Christmas season. Keep in mind that this is completely voluntary and anonymous.
