The Bellwood-Antis Softball team is on a very hot five-game winning streak, which is its best all season, and the Lady Devils’ underclassmen have been a big reason why.
Over the last week, B-A’s youngsters have shined in wins over Bishop Guilfoyle, Glendale, Hollidaysburg West Branch, and most recently Chestnut Ridge.
During the game against Hollidaysburg, the Bellwood-Antis softball team shut down the Tigers 7-0 in a dominant all-around performance by freshman Lainey Stinson. She struck out 19, allowed just two hits, and also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and 3 RBI’s.
“I am just so happy I was able to help my team get the win over Hollidaysburg,” Stinson said.
Sophomore Abby Clabaugh added two hits.
Just one game before that, Stinson completely shut down Glendale by pitching the first perfect game of her career in a 16-0 victory.
But while underclassmen have contributed in major ways, the Lady Devils still have their solid core of three seniors – Amyra Snyder, Parker Martin and London McKee. And they’ve provided production all season.
Against the Lady Tigers, Snyder drove in 2 runs.
During Tuesday’s game against Chestnut Ridge, senior Parker Martin got her 100th hit on a homerun to put B-A up 3-0, and McKee had two hits, including a double. The Lady Devils went on to win 4-0.
But the underclassmen again had an impact. Clabaugh homered and drove in two runs, and junior Paylnn Gregg threw a complete game shutout allowing just 3 hits.
During the closest win during the streak, a 4-3 victory over West Branch, freshman Avery Conlon came through with a walk-off hit to send B-A to a win in a game that had gone 10 innings.
“I’m always happy anytime I can help my team win,” said Conlon.
The Lady Devils face Central Thursday George O. Martin Memorial Field on Northside. They are currently ranked No. 2 in the District 6 2A standings at 12-3, and they’ve allowed the second fewest runs in their classification.
