Yesterday, the Bellwood-Antis baseball clinched a postseason bid after defeating Penn Cambria on Tuesday and followed it up yesterday with a walk-off win that guaranteed them at least one home game in the District 6 2A playoffs.
In both situations, B-A was forced to go extras to earn the victory.
Playing in Bellwood, the Blue Devils and Mounties were tied 8-8 with two outs in the top of the eighth inning when junior Brady McConnell singled down the third base line and stole second, forcing P-O to walk Cam Swogger to set up a force out. Swogger had homered earlier in the game.
The problem for the Mounties was Chase Plummer was hitting behind Swogger, who had already doubled. With a win on the line, Plummer delivered a single to score McConnell.
Tristan Mock, who came on in relief in the sixth, then shut the Mounties down in the bottom of the frame to secure a win that improved the Devils to 10-9.
It was a Senior Night game, allowing the Devils an opportunity to recognize Swogger, Eli Moser, and Colin Gibbons.
On Tuesday, the game was a late one as it started at 6 and went nine innings, but that didn’t stop the Devils from producing a late game comeback to put the Panthers to bed.
Going into the ninth, the game was tied at 4 but the Devils surged and scored 6 runs. Swogger had a clutch hit to drive in 2 runs.
Swogger has been an offensive catalyst this year, batting a solid .393 with 18 RBIs and 3 home runs. He is also leading the team in stolen bases with 6.
But Swogger wasn’t the only late-game hero as Chase Plummer and Maddox McCall had 2 hits and 2 RBIs to extend the lead to 10-6.
B-A will enter the playoffs as the 4 seed and host Moshannon Valley in the first round.

Spring sports in Bellwood are a bright spot this year, baseball included. Psyched for their current success. Looking forward to see how far they can go in the post-season.
