Last Friday, the Bellwood-Antis boys track and field team made it back-to-back wins in two of the areas top invitationals by winning the Mountain Lion Classic 2A division at Mansion Park in Altoona.
The win came just four days after the Devils won their home invite, the Bellwood-Antis Invitational, for the first time since 2019.
The boys had multiple athletes placing in the top 3 and three individual champions. Cam Nelson once again dominated the hurdles by placing first in the 110s and 2 in the 300s. Meanwhile, Owen Stoltzfus continued to shine in the 400, winning the event in 50.98.
In the field, Jayce Quick took first in the discus with a throw of 153. He was also named B-A’s outstanding performer.
Miles Smearman ran a 11.20 in the 100, placing 3rd, and he also finished 5th in the 200, running a 23.45. Braylon Litzinger jumped a 41-7 in the triple jump. The relay teams placed top 3 in both 4×100 and 4×400. The 4×100 placed 3rd with a 44.44, and the 4×400 ran a 3.31.89.
“It was very exciting winning the Mt. Lion Classic,” Coach Lovrich said. “Our guys have been improving all year and to see them do well at that big of an invitational is awesome.”
LHAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The boys track team also had a solid day at the Laurel highlands Conference Championships at Saint Francis University in Loretto, coming in 4th overall and having multiple place winners and numerous school records broken.
Hollidaysburg was the overall winner, followed by Richland and Bedford. But Bellwood were able to hold its own due its depth.
There were also record-breaking days for Miles Smearman and Cam Nelson. Nelson broke his previous 300 hurdles record with a time of 39.63 and Smearman broke the 100m dash record with a time of 11.09. The previous record of 11.12 was set in 2012 by Seth Worthing.
Nelson placed 2nd in both the 300 and 3rd in 110 hurdles. He was also a part of the boys 4x10m relay team that took 7th place and consisted of himself along with Smearman, Owen Stoltzfus, and Braylon Litzinger.
