Lady Devils lose in Reliance championship

Over Christmas break, the Lady Blue Devils competed in the championship game of the 12th annual Reliance Bank Holiday Tournament at Tyrone.

The girls went up against a tough Penn Cambria team, where they wound up losing 58-47. However, they placed two players on the all-tournament team.

In the first half, Bellwood was controlling the game, and were position to win it. They went into halftime up 3 and were looking to keep their momentum going.

Coming out of the half, the girls were able to keep the lead for most of the quarter. They were up 33-27  before the Lady Panthers went on a run to close the 3rd quarter. Penn Cambria put together a 13-3 , and now Bellwood was looking at a 40-36 deficit heading into the fourth.

In the fourth, Penn Cambria stayed hot, as they hit 4 threes r to control their lead and win the championship.

The Lady Devils were led in scoring by junior Jenna Norton, who had 13 points and 9 rebounds. Sophomore, Lilly Gerwert had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Leigha Clapper, had 10 points of her own.

In their first game of the tournament the Lady Blue Devils faced off against Tyrone. Bellwood won this game 48-19 to put themselves in the championship game.

Senior Chloe Hammond was the leading scorer in the win, as she accounted for 14 points, shooting 6-9 from the field. Leigha Clapper and Lilly Gerwert each had 10 points of their own to round out the scoring for B-A.
