The Lady Blue Devils basketball team had 18 total turnovers during their season opener in Bellwood on Wednesday, which ultimately cost them big time.
B-A lost to Penns Valley 68-56. The Lady Devils were in real jeopardy of getting mercy-ruled in the first half.
Despite being down by 19 points at halftime, the Lady Blue Devils rallied in the second half to pull the game within 9 points, but more costly turnovers and fouls sealed B-A’s fate.
Penns Valley forged its big lead with hot shooting, particularly in the first half. The Lady Rams hit 7 threes, including 3 by Elle Dinges, who scored 19, and 2 by Ellie Romig, who led all scorers with 23.
Despite the loss, senior Lilly Gerwert had a big night with 22 points and was able to grab 12 boards. Gerwert is inching just a little closer to 1,000 points for her career.
Sophomores Izzy Sloey and Maya Plummer added 10 a piece.
The girls will be on the road Friday, December 5 in a double header with boys’ team at Bishop Carrol. The Lady Devils will play at 6:00 and the Devils will play at 7:30
