Last Saturday, the Bellwood-Antis girls track and field team competed in the 49th annual Altoona Area Igloo Invitational and had one of its best performances ever at the meet.
Sophomore Ella Cherry had a pair of first-place finishes and set a meet record. She placed in first in long jump with a 17-3 and first in triple jump with a 38-03, breaking the meet record. Cherry keeps on adding on to her own B-A triple jump record as she goes along in the season. She also competed in the 100m dash, finishing in 12.82 in preliminaries and 13.14 in the finals.
“I feel like I did pretty good at the Igloo,” she said. “I wasn’t expecting how I did, but I’m very happy to see my progress.”
Avey powers also placed in 6 in the long jump with a 15-10.
Junior Emma Taneyhill has been breaking the school discus record easily every meet. At the Igloo, she threw 136-10 for discus, breaking her previous record again. She placed in 3rd for discus against some of the top competition around.
“I’m proud of myself for doing how I did,” Taneyhill said. “That was definitely the hardest I’ve ever had to work for a third place finish. I went up against the best girls in the state, and they pushed me to do my best. I didn’t expect to break my own record so early in the season by such a large distance, but I am grateful to see to work pay off.”
The girls 4x100m relay team placed 6th with a 52.24. In the 4x400m, B-A placed in 12th with a 4:43.71. The 4×800 placed in 4th with a 10:34.30.
