The Lady Blue Devil volleyball team took a big loss to West Branch last Thursday at home.

The girls lost three straight sets, but the first two were close.

“We were capable of winning, but we didn’t pull through,” said senior Sophie Damiano.

They Lady Devils had the lead in the first set, but the Lady Warriors came back and won.

In the second set, Bellwood-Antis was winning 18-11, but the Warriors pulled out again and won the second set 25-23.

In the third final set B-A came out strong, scoring eight points to the Lady Warriors’ three, but once again West Branch came back and won, 25-16.

“It was a tough loss because we were so close in every set,” said Damiano.

Abby Luensmann and Damiano were the leading scorers for B-A. Luensmann had 11 service points, 12 assists, 13 digs and two aces. Sophie had 10 service points, eight kills, eight digs, three aces and three blocks.

B-A fell to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the ICC, while West Branch improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

The Lady Devils travel to Williamsburg Tuesday.
