ARTIST OF THE WEEK: Derek Stivers
This week’s Artist of the Week is freshman Derek Stivers.
Derek is an admirer of all things artistic. Music just might be his favorite form, however.
“It’s very different across the world and that makes it interesting to me,” said Stivers.
Derek occasionally does art in his free time. He loves to marvel at the works of other artists, especially Frida Kahlo. When he does paint, he enjoys using watercolor and acrylic paints.
Art is very important in his life.
“Art to me is just self expression that you can see, hear, taste, smell, or touch. As long as it is purposeful,” he said.
Derek is currently in Mrs.McNaul’s art appreciation class. He enjoys the many projects he’s had the opportunity to create, and he finds the class very relaxing and pleasant.
Derek enjoys creating deep meanings with his artwork, delving into topics such as religion, unfair working conditions for factory workers, and politics.
